Liebe TransforMapper, da die Termine und Möglichkeiten rar sind, und sich unsere Kalender schnell füllen, sind wir dabei mit gutem Vorlauf ein Kartiertreffen im November in Berlin vorzubereiten. Würdet ihr gerne an einem solchen Treffen teilnehmen? Wir sind gegenwärtig in Gesprächen mit Wikimedia Berlin, welche wissen wollen, wieviele Gäste zu erwarten wären. Könnt ihr uns trotz Sommerlochs bis 15.08.2018 bescheid geben, ob ihr vorläufig zusagen könnt? Quo Vadis TransforMap: Einladung zur Neuerfindung

Hé da! im März 2014 trafen wir uns das erste Mal. Schon nach einem halben Jahr haben wir auf der /Road to Degrowth/ eine beeindruckende TransforMap Performance <https://commons.blog/2014/09/01/there-are-thousands-of-alternatives-we-will…> hingelegt. Auf verschiedenen Plattformen sind wir herumgewuselt. In Potsdam haben wir 2015 tierisch groovige Kreise gegründet, um uns besser zu organisieren. Das diskutieren von Vokabularien hat uns zu Taxonomen gemacht, das technische Verständnis wuchs hier und da. Und dann kamen CHEST, SSEDAS und wie sie nicht alle hießen <https://discourse.transformap.co/c/projects/>, und alles war anders. Mit unserem Segen <https://discourse.transformap.co/t/collecting-supporter-and-partner-logos/3…> brach eine kleine Schar von Entwickler:innen vertrauensvoll und experimentierend auf ins Ungewisse. Oft auf Abwegen der ausgetretenen Pfade. Zu oft ohne die Menschen, die 2014 gemeinsam aufgebrochen sind. In immer neuen Konstellationen stellte sich ein ums andere Mal die Frage, wie nützlich ein /Intermapping/ der vielen /Transformaps/, die auf einer einzigen Karte sichtbar werden—ohne eine einzige Karte zu sein—wohl sein könnte. Nun sind CHEST und SSEDAS vorbei und alles kann wieder anders werden. Es lohnt sich darüber nachzudenken, wohin TransforMap nun gehen wird. Ich wollte den SSEDAS-Weg damals nicht gehen, oder pointierter: ein Commons nicht zur Dienstleistung werden lassen, bevor es Kraft aus sich selbst heraus entfaltete. Nun bin ich gespannt, wieviel Kraft sich mit all den Erfahrungen im Gepäck gemeinsam entwickeln lässt.

Einladung zu einer Kartierwerkstatt zum Sommeranfang

Liebe Kartografinnen und Kartografen. Seit November 2016 war diese E-Mail-Liste still, und umso stiller wurde es um TransforMap. Nachdem die letzten Projektarbeiten nun abgeschlossen sind, bereiten wir die Aufarbeitung und ein 'Knowledge Capture' der letzten vier Jahre vor. Ihr werdet in den nächsten Tagen hier und auf anderen Kanälen davon hören. Bis dahin vertröste ich euch mit einer mehr technisch-vernetzenden Werkstattidee. Im Juni böte sich ein günstiger Zeitpunkt, um in der Mitte Deutschlands, in Witzenhausen, eine Woche die gegenwärtig in Bewegung befindlichen Kartierungsinitiativen unter die Lupe zu nehmen und weiter daran zu feilen, viele viele Karten auf nur einer zu zeigen. A first meeting to build a core group that moves forward with the project is being planned for the Winter. In perspective is a large Mapping Festival in Summer 2017, where massive mapping of a specific region can take place. Value Flows and Yunity The Value Flows project is progressively continuing with modeling their ontologies for Network Resource Planning. A main partner are the well known Mutual Aid Networks <https://discourse.transformap.co/t/madison-wi-mutual-aid-network-mapping-su…>. A technical demonstration of this collaboration lives at http://locecon.org/. Recently we were looking together at the current entry points for the Transformap community's vocabulary work, the Wikibase <https://base.transformap.co> and the associated query interface. Nearing a 1.0 release of the Value Flows ontology and knowing the prospects of the Yunity project, we are now bringing them closer: Yunity strives for offer and request matching and is building a sophisticated platform, while Value Flows provide a stable foundational data structure. Berlin community wellbeing dinner On November 9th, the #communities:berlin <https://discourse.transformap.co/c/communities/berlin/17> are inviting to a dinner at the Thinkfarm Berlin <http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5544775> for sustaining our mutual wellbeing and mapping interests. Tech RDF support for automatic generation of taxonomies as Linked Open Data We finally managed to setup the Blazegraph database as RDF interface to our taxonomies!With this, we reached a major milestone: to have a database where we can create interlinked taxonomies and serve them as RDF (see the respective community story <https://tree.taiga.io/project/transformap/us/154> for more details). It is now used to serve the translations of the (currently only) SSEDAS taxonomy in the TransforMap Viewer in 15 different languages <http://viewer.transformap.co/#5/51.166/10.451>. A guide on how to add your personal taxonomy will be provided in the next weeks. Translation system now available A translation system for Transformap now in place. Weblate <https://weblate.transformap.co> provides a facility for the translation of the user interface, and allows any user to contribute to the translation of any non-taxonomy parts of the Transformap Viewer. Map editor The work for setting up a Map Editor for Transformap has started. The technical team has decided to use Karte von Morgen's editor <https://github.com/transformaps/kartevonmorgen>, in conjunction with Transformap's own API <https://github.com/TransforMap/transformap-api>. Follow and contribute to the development on our Taiga community story <https://tree.taiga.io/project/transformap/us/27>. Research Article project: collaboratively mapping alternative economies Adrien Labaeye (@alabaeye <https://discourse.transformap.co/users/alabaeye>) is preparing a peer review journal article entitled "Collaboratively mapping alternative economies", where he proposes a three-pronged typology to help navigate the diversity of mappings initiatives in the field of alternative economies. Adrien is very much looking forward to gather feeback from people who have been involved in the practice of collaboratively mapping alternative economies. CfP: Geographies of Degrowth On the bridge between geographical research and theory of degrowth, the American Assocation of Geographers has launched a call for papers for its' meeting in April 2017 in Boston. Thanks to this fund, we achieved major milestones and were able to prototype - and in some cases even beyond - a series of tools and deployments that form the core of the Transformap infrastructure. Our final report, redacted by Get Active, has already been approved by the consortium coordinators. Ecobytes and Get Active have now to provide the final cost claims in order to receive the last chunk of funding. Application to Prototype Fund of the Open Knowledge Foundation As part of the efforts to stablise and extend the commons infrastructure which provisions Transformap, Jon Richter @almereyda <https://discourse.transformap.co/users/almereyda>) has submitted an application to the OKF Prototype Fund <https://www.bmbf.de/foerderungen/bekanntmachung-1225.html>, funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research. *EINLADUNG ZU EINEM MUSTERWORKSHOP NACH CHRISTOPHER ALEXANDER* *EINFACHER GEMEINSAM HANDELN* von TransforMap und Silke Helfrich (CSG, Commons Institut) Die Frage ist nicht was Commons sind, sondern wie etwas zum Commons wird. Wir müssen uns daher über das Werden Gedanken machen. Immer wieder neu. Commons herzustellen, zu verteidigen, zu entwickeln und zu schützen ist nicht einfach, weil dies gemeinsam und nicht einsam zu tun ist. Und es ist doppelt schwer mitten im Kapitalismus. Es geht also darum, die Kunst des Commoning zu lernen. Dafür gibt es keine Patentrezepte aber Grundmuster. Grundmuster sind eine Art Gestaltungsprinzipien, die in jeder guten Lösung für gemeinsames Handeln enthalten sind, aber manchmal im Verborgenen liegen. Die Idee dieses Workshops ist, sie explizit machen, auf den Punkt zu bringen und in Sprache zu kleiden, damit sie uns im Alltagt helfen. Muster gemeinsamen Handelns können kommunizierbar machen, was Commoning bedeutet und zu leisten vermag. *Muster des Commoning*, so wie wir sie im Workshop erarbeiten werden, sind konzeptionelle und verbale Werkzeuge. Sie dienen uns jene Probleme zu lösen, die in Commons-Projekten immer wieder auftauchen, ohne sie aus ihrem Kontext zu nehmen oder der Illusion zu verfallen, es gäbe Blaupausen. *Wann?* Donnerstag, den 15.12.'16, 17:00 Uhr beginnend mit der Vorbereitung eines gemeinsamen Abendessens Samstag, den 17.12.'16, 15:00 Uhr nach dem gemeinsamen Aufräumen BITTE KOMPLETT AM WORKSHOP TEILNEHMEN! Have a good read! ------------------------------ Community Update on call for proposal The call for proposal received until now 6 proposals! Still only two persons have shown interest in being part of the decision process in allocating funds. To make it really a community process, please take part in it by writing to me or writing on the thread on the forum. To allow for enough time, the call is extended until Sunday 17th midnight, don't feel shy and take part in the process of deciding how the money is allocated - this will take place from Monday 18th till Wednesday 20th without requiring participation in a meeting. Translation of social and solidarity economy vocabulary The translation of the first iteration of social and solidarity economy filters has started in wikibase <https://base.transformap.co/wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=120>, with already more than 5 languages (including english, german, spanish, croatian, hungarian, slovenian, gaelic, farsi,...). .You can check out the translations with the language selector on the top of the site. ------------------------------ Technology New overview of the Transformap (socio-technical) architecture Jon Richter put together some more explanation of how Transformap broadly envision the process of connecting the maps and the vocabularies they use to describe alternative economies <https://discourse.transformap.co/t/the-transformap-architecture-in-simple-t…>. Call for mini-proposals (buckets) from the community

Dear Transformap contributors and friends, 2000€ have been set aside to fund the community in contributing to the wider Transformap vision (i.e. related to mapping alternatives). We aim in priority at funding activities that will strengthen the community and the wider ecosystem. Primarily non-technical activities are encouraged. The way we'll do it is an experiment to distribute decision-making in the community, so please take part! Summary Proposals for activities to be funded that contribute to the topic of mapping alternatives can be submitted by anyone. Any person that has been active in the Transformap community will be entitled to take part in the decision making process as long as they make the request by 15th of July. The decision making process will happen over three days (16th till 18th of July midnight ECT) during which you can ask for direct support by contacting me (Adrien). When? - Deadline for submission of proposals is 15th of July. - From 16th till 18th (23:59 ECT) of July the proposals are collectively reviewed and funded. - Activities to be funded need to happen before the end of September 2016. Who can submit a proposal? Anyone. Really, anyone. You can also start a proposal even if you are not the one to implement (in that case you should have secured one or more person who are ready to implement that proposal by the end of the submission period). How to submit a proposal? Start a discussion on this forum in this Forum category <https://discourse.transformap.co/c/communities/community-buckets> with the title 'Community bucket proposal: [your short title]'. Describe the content and impact of the activities envisioned. Make an estimation of the budget you'll need. Small budgets (below 500€) are encouraged. And link you proposal in this discussion thread <https://discourse.transformap.co/t/call-for-proposal-funding-the-community-…> so everybody can hear of it! How will we decide on the proposals? The co-budget tool <https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ZQYKxhHwKuQGmOMPpoE8Eo0XMuw1yn55Bjg…> will be used. It's really easy to use! Don't be afraid. *How does this work?* Before the end of the submission period (15ht of July) anyone who has taken part at some point in any of Transformap activities who want to take part in the selection of proposals should inform us here on this forum thread <https://discourse.transformap.co/t/call-for-proposal-funding-the-community-…>or directly by email (adrienlabaeye [a] gmail.com) or twitter <https://twitter.com/alabaeye>. Each person who expressed the will to do so will be granted access to co-budget and allocated an equal share of the 2000€. This means you should inform us before the 15th of July, after this there is no way to get you involved! Once the money is shared between all participants, everyone distributes her/his share to the proposals she/he prefers. For example: say @Silke <https://discourse.transformap.co/users/silke> and 19 other persons have manifested the wish to take part in the process. This means @Silke <https://discourse.transformap.co/users/silke> receives 100€ on her Co-budget account. She can distribute the way she want those 100€, spreading it to more proposals or concentrating it on one she absolutely wants to see happen.
